I stand on the balcony of my new room, I look down at the courtyard below. The pearlescent stone fountain below allows water to flow forth and irrigate the floors. The walk ways of the courtyard spread out like a maze, some are cut off by walls of red flowers and green leaves. Water from the fountain flows out in shallow one foot wide trenches that flow around the bushes. Bridges span the short distance from one side to another, all for appearance no other purpose.
The bushes of red flowers are said to represent the truth. The truth that we all bleed and we are all the same. To my right I can hear a preacher practicing his prayer and sermon, very few people are allowed in Eagleview Palace. The preacher ministers at the church of the illuminated. The light of the sun is blocked out by the over hanging clouds, I turn away and walk back into my room.
The floors of the room are cold, cool stone that spans the length of the room seamlessly. The walls are white and barren of any natural design, just beneath the surface I can see different alchemic symbols. In the middle of the room stands a four post bed with white sheets and four white pillows. To my right as I step in from the balcony rests a simple wooden desk riddled with papers and books.
I sit on the floor by my bed and look across the room at the wall. I hear someone yelling from the courtyard below, the voice of my father. “What do you mean he can not go to the Academy?” There is a sudden pop and my father thunderous voice come again. “Sapin is my son.”
Someone starts crying, I stand up and sneak back to the balcony. I peer just over the edge of the railing, below I see my father's long, dark brown hair. The air around him is rippling, as he stands at the edge of the fountain wearing his long blue robe trimmed in red. The blue of the cloak represents his rank as a member of the kings council, the red on it though shows he is part of the Council of the Three Schools.
My father is not looking at me, his right shoulder is lined up with where  I am standing. On their knees in front of him is a girl, at first I do not recognize her ,but when she looks up that changes. Even in the shadow of the clouds I can see who it is before my father.
Kierra looks up at my father, her nose scrunched up in disgust as she looks into my fathers eyes. I can hardly see her eyes, but in know that the left one is an ocean of blue and the right one is a sea of green. Her hair is black with a gold streak mixed into her bangs. “I'm sorry Sir Leone.  The Academy has denied to allow him, seeing has how he is marked.” Kierra bowed her head to show respect, even though I knew better. Never has she respected my father as a council member, but only as a criminal.
“Well, we will see about that.”My father turned his back to her, I look around to see if anyone has come out to see whats going on. The other balconies all remain vacant, as my father walks toward the palace doors. “One more thing Kierra, if I send Sapin I expect you to go with him. “ He looks up at the sky a grin works it way across his lips,a grin that makes my skin crawl. He continues, “You are his only friend.”
The doors of the palace swing open and he steps in.  Kierra sits outside by the fountain for awhile. She stands up, her faded green dress is slightly wrinkled, she makes no attempt to fix it. She casts her gaze up to where I sit, a warm all-be-it halfhearted smile on her lips. I quickly look around, no one is around all the guards have retired for the night.  The only guards left are manning the outer walls of the palace. I look over the edge of the railing.  Then move to the far left side and swing my legs over the railing.
With a sigh I push off, the wind rushes past me as I fall the  three stories toward the hard stone below. I reach down for what little magic control I have, I tug lightly on the strings bending the flow of the nearby water. The water from the small irrigation canals shoots up from its banks and catches me as I fall. Five feet from the ground I begin to slow, almost to a halt before my toes touch the ground.
The first two pages, if i get positive feed back i will post more.
This is my favorite of my two characters if everything goes well i will be finished with the entire book by Saturday.
